Having been presented with the Restoration Cup at the HLR AGM last November, unbeknown to Victor Thomas, his Climax-deDion Seven was featured on the Classic Cars Magazine website for readers to vote for the classic-car restoration of the year. The 1959 Seven was voted into the final four cars and appeared on the Classic Cars stand for the three-day show at Alexandra Palace in March. There was great variation among the four finalists, ranging from a vintage Humber, through Austin 7 and VW Carmen Ghia to the Lotus Neither of the other three had been used on the road since restoration, whereas the Seven has had three hard circuit days plus two rallies and was built for competition rather than Concours showing. Nevertheless, the Seven, which was shown minus bonnet and rear seat back to show off the Climax and deDion came an interesting second. -------- pity they had not taken the 340 bhp per ton power-to-weight ratio into account! The car was originally purchased as a pile of junk and even the chassi had been cut up. Over 15 years it was rebuilt and then united with its first owner. This Seven ran as a GT in 1962 and holds the Brands Hatch lap record for 1100 GTs to this day.
