13/11/17 NEC Classic Motorshow report

A huge thanks is due to Phil Jewell and his enthusiastic team for a superb event at the NEC, I think we can say HLR is firmly on the map with the organisers. The cars were the stars, and in particular the Lotus 12 (compliments of Clive Chapman) which proved to be a unique highlight and the focus of much interest from the media and public.

This years theme was "family ties", displayed perfectly by Clive echoed by Colin gazing thoughtfully at a Lotus grand prix car.

The club secretary's type 14 Elite attracted a lot of admiration

A decision will be taken at the AGM as to whether we make this an annual event, but given the success and the absence of the Lotus show at Donington, it's likely to be a permanent fixture on the calendar.

Lotus Seven, 60th Anniversary at the BRDC Centre, Silverstone. Report from Paul Davis

A "full house" of 100 HLR guests attended a celebration of the 60th anniversary of the Lotus Seven at the British Racing Drivers Club centre at Silverstone on 23rd September 2017, where an elegant lunch was attended and addressed by period Formula 1 / Le Mans / Monaco winner Richard Attwood. Nearly 30 historic Lotus Sevens plus support from Lotus Elites (also 60 years old this year) and two Lotus 6’s in autumnal sunshine made for a perfect celebration!  I particularly like the shot of two racers in period (Richard Attwood and Ken Lyon from California)  engrossed in conversation about their Formula Junior days – both raced Lotus 20s successfully, and Bob Dance (Jim Clark’s mechanic) recalls working at Cheshunt watching Sevens lowered by hoist from the mezzanine floor before despatch! John Watson's meticulous arrangements resulted not only in a record turnout of early Lotus Sevens and a "full house" at lunch, but also the compliments of the BRDC on our passion and enthusiasm shown by everyone on the day."
