Lotus Twelve replica of car known as the Sabakat. The original car (chassis #351) was
destroyed in 1960 at the Australian Grand Prix meeting and this re-creation was finished in 1979. At the time the Confederation of Australian Motor Sports (CAMS) had a policy that an approved recreation could be built provided it was both identical to the original car and the original car no longer existed. The history is described in detail in "Historic Lotus" #52 Spring 2008 and listed in Grand Prix Lotus Register in Doug Nye's book 'Theme Lotus'. The car is a very faithful recreation of the first Twelve to run in 1957 and has a conventional gearbox attached to the engine with step up gears to the conventional rear axle Final Drive Unit (similar to the Eleven set-up). This was because the Lotus "Queerbox" was not ready in time, so this car avoids all the complications of the "queerbox". It has the Chapman Strut rear suspension. Fitted with a 1475cc Coventry Climax FPF engine and MG gearbox (both 6 meetings old). Has full CAMS certification allowing it to compete in historic events which should be accepted by the FIA as a Historic Technical Passport. Has a long and successful race history since the build finished in 1979. In excellent condition and ready to race. Located in Australia. Price GBPounds 90,000. Peter Statton P.O.
